Editorial policy

The standards behind every guide we publish.

Our mission

We publish career guidance that people can act on with confidence. That means accurate facts, clear sourcing, plain language and regular updates.

Sourcing

We prefer primary sources in this order:

  1. Official statistics from government agencies, such as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
  2. Published research, including peer reviewed journals and working papers from research institutions.
  3. Named industry surveys from hiring platforms, recruiters and international organizations. We always name the publisher and the survey period, because these sources can have commercial interests.

Every guide lists its sources at the end, and every statistic in the text is linked or attributed.

Fact checking

Before publication, each statistic, date and quoted finding is checked against the original source, not against another article that cites it. We record the reference period exactly as the source publishes it.

Updates

Each guide shows a publication date and a last updated date. We review guides when the underlying data changes, for example when a new government release appears, and when readers report a problem.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it promptly. Significant corrections are noted at the end of the affected guide with the date of the correction. To report an error, use our contact page.

Independence

No employer, recruiter, school or software vendor pays to appear in Careertipset guides or to influence what we write. If a page ever includes sponsored or affiliate content, it will be labeled clearly at the top.

Use of AI tools

We may use software tools, including AI tools, to help research and draft. Every guide is reviewed by our editorial team, and every fact is checked against the sources listed on the page before publication.

Advice, not legal or financial counsel

Our guides are general information. For decisions with legal, tax or financial consequences, please consult a qualified professional in your country.
